Welcome Message

On behalf of the Organising Committee, I am delighted to welcome neuroscientists from Southern Africa, the African continent, and across the globe to the 2026 Southern African Neuroscience Society (SANS) Conference in Cape Town. This year’s meeting is centred on the theme “Advancing Brain Health – From Molecules to Mind” reflecting our commitment to integrating discovery science with clinical insight, population health, innovation, and policy to improve neurological outcomes across Africa and beyond.
SANS 2026 seeks to strengthen collaboration across basic, translational, clinical, and applied neurosciences, creating space for interdisciplinary dialogue and meaningful partnerships. From molecular mechanisms and cellular networks to cognition, behaviour, and community brain health, our programme will highlight the full continuum of neuroscience research and its real-world impact. I am confident that, like previous SANS symposia, this meeting will be a vibrant, intellectually energising gathering that inspires bold ideas and lasting collaborations.
We are honoured to host the 2026 Conference in the iconic city of Cape Town – where mountains meet ocean and science meets global exchange. Framed by the majestic Table Mountain and surrounded by spectacular coastlines, Cape Town offers a rich blend of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and world-class research institutions. Beyond the scientific programme, I encourage you to explore the city’s diverse culture, historic landmarks, and scenic landscapes.
Our programme features cutting-edge keynote and plenary lectures from world-leading neuroscientists, thematic symposia aligned with our continental priorities, industry engagement, and dedicated platforms for students and early-career researchers. I warmly invite you to engage fully in the discussions, share your work with confidence, and take advantage of the many opportunities to connect and collaborate.
We look forward to welcoming you to Cape Town in 2026 as we advance brain health together, from molecules to mind.
A/Professor Rachael Dangarembizi
