SANS Conference 2026: open calls and free SANS membership for registering students!

The 2026 Southern African Neuroscience Society (SANS) Conference in Cape Town has been announced!

This year’s meeting is centred on the theme Advancing Brain Health – From Molecules to Mind reflecting our commitment to integrating discovery science with clinical insight, population health, innovation, and policy to improve neurological outcomes across Africa and beyond.

We encourage early-bird registrations until 30 April 2026. Abstract submissions will remain open until 30 April 2026. We also have some travel grants to offer for SADC-based Masters, PhD, and Postdoc researchers who have an active SANS membership.

Registration is open! Please register here. There is an opportunity to renew your annual SANS membership before registering for the conference.

Students who register for the conference will receive complimentary SANS membership for 2026.

Abstract submission

We invite research across several themes of neuroscience, to be presented as an oral or poster presentation. For detailed submission guidelines, please visit the SANS2026 portal here.

Submission guidelines, in brief:

  • All abstracts must be submitted in English and via the online submission site only. 
  • The presenting author must register and attend the symposium. Please enter the presenting author’s information on the submission form.
  • Abstracts should be submitted by the 30th of April 2026. Any submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.

Sub-themes: Neuroinfections, neuroinflammation, and traumatic brain injury; Neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration; Ageing and dementia; Addiction and psychiatric disorders; Neurotechnology and neuroinformatics; Circuits, cognition and behaviour; Neuroimaging and NeuroAI; Neurogenetics and genomics; Sleep, pain, and thermoregulation; Neuroethics and policy; Other themes of neuroscience.
