Postdoc fellowship-University of Stellenbosch

A position for a postdoctoral fellow is available in the Department of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic Neuropsychiatric Genetics research group.
The proposed project involves identifying PTSD disease-associated variants by integrating available high-throughput RNAseq and GWAS data. Expression QTLs will subsequently be tested for association with neuroimaging data (both functional and structural), and those found to be associated with various PTSD-related structural and functional brain imaging phenotypes will be selected for experimental validation in iPSC-derived neuronal cell cultures obtained from the participants.
The fellowship is available for a minimum period of one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year, dependent on satisfactory progress. The value of the fellowship will be R200 000 per annum, tax-free, provided certain conditions are met.
The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to:
• contribute significantly to the publication of research outputs by the research group
• perform experiments within the laboratory, pertaining to the project
• perform teaching and supervision duties
• write and submit funding proposals to facilitate sustainability of the research undertaken.
