Call for Applications
The Africa Microscopy Initiative (AMI), with support from the Advanced Imaging Center (AIC) at Janelia, is pleased to announce a workshop on multispectral fluorescence microscopy. The event will take place at the AMI Imaging Centre, University of Cape Town (UCT), from 23 to 26 March 2026, and is specifically for the South African BioImaging community. The workshop is supported by ZEISS South Africa. The 4-day workshop will combine lectures and practical microscopy sessions, covering the following topics:
- Fundamentals of optics and microscopy
- Principles of fluorescence and spectral resolution
- Introduction to multispectral imaging (MSI)
- Linear unmixing and reference spectra
- Basics of digital image processing and analysis
- Object segmentation and quantification in FIJI
- Practical considerations for MSI experiment design
- Hands-on microscope sessions and image analysis
Application:
Students and researchers who would like to participate in the multispectral fluorescence microscopy workshop are encouraged to submit an application here.
Note: Google log in is required to complete the application form. This is to facilitate document upload.
Please complete the application, which includes capturing basic information as well as motivational statements relating to research relevancy, skill dissemination and support, as well as prior microscopy experience. You are also encouraged to submit a letter of support from your line manager /supervisor if possible.
Applications will be reviewed on a continual basis, therefore it is recommended to submit your application at the earliest convenience. Applications close on 16 February 2026 with notification of application outcome before 23 February 2026.
