It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Annerine Roos, the Deputy Chairperson of the Southern African Neuroscience Society (SANS). Annerine was a dedicated and passionate leader who served SANS with distinction and commitment. She was a true champion of our mission who left her mark in neuroscience research and training.

Annerine fervently served on the SANS Executive Committee, and she was the Chair of the Scientific Committee for the just ended SANS Symposium 2024. She was a strong believer in fairness, transparency and quality science. Outside of science, everyone knew Annerine as a calm, kind-hearted and trustworthy colleague who always wore a warm smile. Her legacy will continue to inspire and motivate us to strive for excellence and her contributions to SANS will never be forgotten.

We extend our deepest condolences to Annerine’s family, colleagues, and friends. May her memory be a blessing, and may we continue to draw strength from the remarkable contributions she made towards the growth of African neuroscience.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
