Biography:

I am Professor & Head of the Dept of Psychiatry & Mental Health at the University of Cape Town. My own work focuses on the psychobiology and management of anxiety and related disorders. I am also interested in seeing the growth of translational neuroscience in other areas relevant to Africa.

Description of current research:

I am involved in a number of ongoing research projects. Three of particular interest are 1) the Drakenstein Child Health Study, which includes a wide range of translational neuroscience research relevant to neurodevelopment; 2) the Neuro-GAP collaboration, which is focused on neurogenetics research, and 3) the ENIGMA Collaboration, particularly ENIGMA-HIV and ENIGMA-OCD, which is focused on neuroimaging research.

Researcher
Cape Town
Neuroscience Institute
Biography:

My research aims are to understand the neurobiological mechanisms which underlie the diagnosis of schizophrenia - using innovative, interdisciplinary, and translational neuroscience

Description of current research:

Translational neuroscience: bridging the gap between basic and clinical neuroscience in severe mental disorders – including schizophrenia. This is being achieved using basic neuroscience animal models and multi-modal brain imaging techniques in clinical populations.
